Have I offended you in this exchange or harassed anyone sexually that you are aware of? Just need to ask.

Not at all. Bill you have been quite a gentleman, and I just enjoy a good exchange even if it gets to the point of a heated debate. Getting opposing views is always good for the brain. By always agreeing with each other is an indication that one is not thinking.

I raised the question about trout fishing - which you guys are avid and passionate sports people - arising from my having no experience nor knowledge about that branch of outdoor activities.

My concern is that no matter you use a harmless hook and claim that the fish did not get hurt, I still cannot see how the fish is not damaged at all: you have a wire puncturing the mouth of the fish (no matter how small the hole is), and drag that fish to you while the fish is fighting for its life and resists causing tear in that mouth, and then, you gently take that fish out from its natural environment, gasping in agony for breathing, and then you release it into the water. And avid fisherpeople claim there is no harm done.

I would go further into thinking: what if there is a sport of submerging a child in the river for just one minute, forcing that child to be in an unnatural environment. That child is in agony, fighting for his/her life, and at the end of one minute, you let the child free. No harm done, not even a wound in the mouth, not even a harmless hook is used. I am sure that is not OK for anybody to do that. Yet, in my book, that is exactly what is done to the fish and even worse with the hook.

I have seen on TV how they fish from a boat, use an J-iron hook (sometimes a net is used when the fish is small enough) to get the fish into the boat, get a pair of pliers, get the hook off the fish and that pains seeing the wounded fish released. As I posted earlier, they shoot horses, don't they?
I would rather see a wounded fish killed and prepared for the frying pan.
