re: A friend says that in the bunker you can't do a practice swing at all (or its a stroke penalty). I had been under the impression that you can do a practice air swing, but you can't ground the club. Do you know which is correct?

You can do as many practice swings as you want as long as you don't ground the club. Same is true in red staked hazards. If you are in a hazard and take a practice swing and accidentally knock a leaf off a tree, that's considered "improving your lie" and a penalty stroke.

I forget the tournament and player but a guy was in the trap, swung and the ball trickled back into the trap. He took a few steps back and his club accidentally brushed the sand, while the ball was still in the trap. 1000's of players called in to report the infraction of grounding his club, penalty stroke.

Don't worry about too much time on your hands, I would rather talk golf than politics anytime. Just ordered a new set of custom irons last week.
