I'm not sure which one that is (Becker?) but I don't doubt that consumers can go to a mall and select the best value for a product. What I'm wondering about is why young women in particular spend themselves into serious debt buying things in malls that their checkbook says they cannot possibly afford.

They would be better served paying down debt or saving money for a house but they feel they 'have to have' yet another article of clothing. That's irrational behavior but it happens to all of us and it happens to some of us in voting booths.

I thought this was funny,

"..The snake brain controls courtship, patrolling of territory (including our daily 75-minute travel budget), displays of dominance and submission, and flocking. And makes most of the sensational news..."
