However, from the research I did, the mezizah practice you mentioned, while it does exist, is in fact pretty rare -- only some of the very isolated, fervently Orthodox communities practice it, not the modern Orthodox or even most traditional Orthodox communities. I know many, many Orthodox Jews and none practice it. -Z
