Mrs. Plame's identity as an undercover CIA officer was first disclosed to Russia in the mid-1990s by a Moscow spy, said officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The Vanity Fair report indicates that she was brought back to the US from Europe in 1997 because there was a fear that Aldrich Ames had compromised her. I have no idea what VF's sources were for this information but since it gushed about her and Wilson, and the CIA was up in arms about the disclosure, I suspect that the VF source was a good one.

Do the math.
