The whole point of the Declaration was that no permission, agreement, consent, or sign off of any sort was needed from the King was needed. The treaty of Paris was a Peace treaty between nations. The King acknowledged our existence but we were no longer subject to his authority at the time so he didn't authorize anything. Recognition and relinquishing claims at the Treaty of Paris provided the foundation for Peaceful coexistence. However, if the Declaration had no legitimacy, who did he relinquish his claim too?
