tejek,

re:
I wasn't suggesting that we solve the world's problems with oil production but rather through hybrids, I saw it as one way to reduce American dependency on foreign oil. There is not going to be one solution to this problem.

On that we agree 100% - for some the idea of a hybrid is to save money, but Oregon is already considering a pre-emptive tax to recoup lost taxes from gas sale revenues due to more efficient cars - sort of removes one incentive. That's government for you, give and take.

re:
BTW why aren't you complaining about the tax incentives on Hummers?

Duh! Sorry, I don't drag other issues to the conversation just to obfuscate the point of discussion - of course I think tax breaks for Hummers are stupid. However, it was a tax incentive for farmers in the 1980's gone wrong due to a loophole just like the one you're currently suggesting for hybrids could also go wrong. Hybrids are already selling beyond supply - you don't need an incentive when sales are brisk. Besides we had one to kick start the market - it served it's purpose.

re: Damn........are you GOPers negative or what? With that attitude, we will never come up with a solution for any problem.

No - it's a real issue that China and India to get to our standard of living will put huge demands on resources and the environment far beyond what we in America do today. You do know they mine more coal than the rest of the world put together in China. Recent news reports from China have said the days of a million bicycles in Beijing and gone - everyone wants a car.
