D3 Funds Supports Brooks Merger With Helix Tech

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- A group including D3 Family Fund L.P. on Tuesday reported a 5.1% stake in Brooks Automation Inc. (BRKS) and said it supports the merger of the company with Helix Technology Corp. (HELX).

D3 funds, run by David Nierenberg, president of Nierenberg Investment Management, beneficially owns 2.32 million shares of Brooks Automation common stock, according to a Schedule 13D filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Brooks Automation, which provides hardware and software automation products to the global semiconductor industry, on Monday agreed to acquire Helix Technology for about $454 million in stock.
