Sure they were. They were not descended from the Angles nor the Saxons, nor even the Normans, nor the Celts, nor the Picts, if that's what you mean.

But they were English citizens, born in England, raised in England. England is going to have to figure out what to do about it.

When you speak of people being English, even the dictionary's first meaning is "Of, relating to, or characteristic of England or its people or culture."

So those who follow the English language would logically agree with your assertion, "but they are definitely not English."

To be English one should understand and respect the English Bill of Rights and then off course know why to be English is to be orange.

Yes the English are orange. And many English are cats.
