The guys were po'd that the stone supplier gave us the big rocks that were dished shaped on one side, so I told them to just stand them vertically..I like the variation, and it is a quick way to get some square footage up. Because, yes, it takes a long time to get build those walls..

Is that a dark brown mulch?
yep...it is composted steer manure and sawdust...

Did you have to put landscaping fabric underneath or will the weeds stay out with minor maintenance?

No fabric, just dense planting and lots of groundcovers. They have a gardener also. But, in another year or so, it won't need a lot od maintenance, it is meant to be a "wild" garden..
