I have a hard time seeing it happen with cpus, but given the expansion in "points of sale" it's not complete lunacy to wonder about (relatively) low-ticket iPods. I personally don't think there is much of it going on - and really, what would be the point of inflating an already-impressive result? - but it would be difficult for us to know in anything resembling realtime.

If Apple books the sale on shipping, then there is the possibility of channel stuffing. But I repeat, it would take an enormous amount of stuffing to come up with these kinds of numbers. Is anyone suggesting that Apple put more than a hundred thousand CPUs on retail shelves just to make this quarter look better? Or a million iPods?

Allen, I would like to say that IMO selling 1 million more shuffles or minis is not a big undertaking and probably happened without too much effort as I saw many people (actually teenagers) picking up their first mini. Computers is another story that may not have been such an easy sell especially after Job's Intel bomb. Many Wintel users I know clearly made the comment that had they been interested in a Mac in the near future were now going to wait for good till the first crop of Intel Macs are out.

Apple used to report on sell-through only. I don't think they do that now though and report on shipped items. They stated they now have 4-5 weeks of computer and iPod inventory - that would be the "stuffing".

BTW, isn't anybody going to make a guess on Apple's computer market share? I figure 4.3%
