No, you are misconstruing the meaning of that statement (#2). It is not an assertion that "God is a being...", but rather a statement to define the term "God" for purposes of the argument. It could be rephrased, without altering the meaning, as The term "God" means "a being than which no greater can be conceived." The statement, then, does not in any way presume that God "exists" or that God "is" anything beyond a concept - an idea. You do agree that parties can agree on the definition of a term representing only an idea, don't you?
