Did it EVER matter (to Al-Qaeda's survival) whether or not US succeeded in making Iraq the democratic pro-American paradise they imagined?

The minute US invaded Iraq, US lost the war on ideology for "the hearts and minds". Military victory (a la "Mission Accomplished") didn't seem to change that. And I unfortunately don't think any eventual "success" in Iraq will matter much to the future of Al-Qaeda.

Both of Scheuer's books are a must read. (they are both penned w/the name "anonymous" as he was still employed when he wrote them.)

Conz in the administration should study history. Terrorism is a direct result of occupation, oppression or both. Simple as that.
