Conservatives, in a blissfully ignorant and blindly patriotic way, think of those on the left as being anti-American. We're not anti-American. We're in favor of a realistic view of history and our country's not always so pretty relationship to that history. We're in favor of humanistic solutions to problems that are all too often settled with guns and violence, often by our own government. I agree, Chile and Central America in the 1980s are not our greatest moments, and we're supposedly in favor of democracy, plutocracy is more like it.
