I still think Wilson was motivated by buffing up his importance to Kerry, though. But maybe CIA vs. administration finger-pointing was it. Or maybe both

Like Hitch says, reporters get a scandal when there is a bureaucratic war. The CIA's war against the White House spawned this war. Wilson's own personal self-puffery motives were obvious too, as is the hope of getting Karl Rove.
