Senator Dorgan is introducing a bill to bar CNOOC from buying Unocal. The trade wars are starting.

You heard it here first.

Assuming this bill passes, precious metals (and maybe energy and other commodities) are going to be the only place to be.

I'm surprised bonds aren't getting hit on this.

The Congress can't stop the buyout of Unocal. Already the laws exist to do so, however. The President is authorized to act under the Defense Production Act of 1950 to suspend a merger if national security is threatened. So, the Pres would need to act here... it's a separation of powers thang.

Isn't Hu Jintao coming to the US in September? The next few months should be interesting.
