It would be very interesting indeed to know more about the algorithms in use in the London public spots video supervision systems.
How to automatically profile the potentially bad guys among the million faces viewed every day.
I have some ideas how they work because that doesn't take a rocket scientist. Skin and eye colors, beards, noses, you know.

Any scientist or statistician will tell you that racial profiling can be a very good way to catch a criminal. Have you ever heard of profiling in criminal cases? That's where they look at the profile of a serial killer or other criminal and match it up against known patterns from their database of previous cases. It's very good for developing a predictive profile of the criminal they are after.

You are talking two different things. Monitoring a group because you believe they might be promoting terrorism is one thing. I agree with that.

Singling people out in a line of people flying to NYC from London because they fit a particular description is racial profiling. Aside from the fact that its an indication of racism, its a rather stupid approach to solving the problem.

Same thing goes with terrorism. Today, most large terrorist acts which result in civilian killings are perpetrated by Muslims. 95%+ of all worldwide terrorist acts are committed by Muslims. It doesn't take a genius to realize you have to use that as a factor when you are seeking to prevent future attacks.

So what? Even if its true, and I am not sure that is, your comment is based on statistics from last year or the year before.........it doesn't mean that will be the case next year or ten years from now. We've had our share of home grown terrorists. In addition, other non Muslim terrorists like in Ireland, Columbia and Spain have been relatively quiet in recent years. That could change at the drop of the hat.

I refuse to be enveloped by your singular paranoia of Muslims.
