Let's talk about same results.

Dry year, red mites start eating the beans. Spray and get 3/4 of a normal crop or don't spray and have no crop.

Beetles are eating the silks on the young corn ears. No silks, no pollination thus no corn. Kill the beetles and you get a crop.
