Is this really evil, or some sort of serious mental illness compounded by what I believe will probably come out eventually--that the killer of the Groene family was seriously abused himself as a child?

I haven't seen news on that, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if that is the case.

I am not excusing his actions, incidentally. the crimes were horrific and sickening. I am just noting that children who are treated brutally often grow up to be brutal themselves, and that early intervention with children at risk benefits the entire society.

Agree 100%

Incredible...

regardless of what may or may not have happened to him as a child, he is evil today. If something did happen to him as a child he had a choice to either do unto others as was done to him, or to say "I didn't like what was done to me, so I won't do it to another". He made a choice to be evil.

Maybe those hunters whose death you rejoiced in because they were murderers were just suffering from serious mental illness which would make their deaths somewhat tragic rather than something to be celebrated. Ya think?
