I a sister and a daughter, both teachers. My sister dreads every year because she teaches 6th grade where they are starting to break away from authority figures. About half the time she has a great class; the other half is from hell. One kid threatened to kill her and was caught with a gun on the street the next day. My daughter teaches 1st through 3rd graders, mostly Russian immigrants and at one time predominantly Hispanic. They are great kids and she's a great teacher, but she can hardly exist on what they pay her.

My mother in law was a teacher, 40 years ago. She let no monkey business stand for long. She knew all the parents and they supported her, and other teachers supported her.

Teachers no longer have the support from the system and the families that they need. It's a wonder there are any good ones left.

My daughter observed a woman teaching about right angles and left angles.

I'm afraid she had it a bit wrong. The left angle is the reason for the abominable state of our educational system, not a mathematical principle.
