CJ, what I find surprising is how indignant all the members of the press seem to be over the Plame "leak," when they themselves would sell out America's national security just to get the "inside scoop" on any breaking story.

assuming that he knew that she was covert no more than five years before he opened his mouth...

Rove knew the information was classified. He told Time reporter Matt Cooper that it would be declassified soon. He definitly knew it was classified when he disclosed it. Passing on any classified information is a violation of a different law.

"Republicans are responding to the revelations about Rove's role in the leak by saying that the deputy White House chief of staff first heard about Wilson's wife from a reporter."

Of course they would try that. Unfortunately, it doesn't absolve Rove of anything, even if true. Rove could have read about it on a restroom wall, but when he passed the information on he broke the law, assuming that he knew that she was covert no more than five years before he opened his mouth...

I am thinking more and more Rove leaked an exclusive to Novak, giving him Plame's name. And then went about spinning his web whenever he spoke privately to a member of the press, making Wilson look like an incompetent who needs his wife to get a job. When he spoke to Cooper, he didn't tell him a name but simply alluded to Wilson's wife.......after all, Cooper is from the 'liberal' press......no scoops for him. And he ended the conversation with: "I've said too much". Isn't that a line from the movie Evita where she says "I've said too much" when everyone knows that that's exactly what she intended?

Besides, if its not Rove, why haven't they brought out a sacrificial lamb yet.......in order to stop the controversy? And why isn't Bush doing his I'm-loyal-to-my-employees schtick with Rove? Time will tell.
