So republicans, who love the stock market (and probably Armani suits) create a war and send people to it, and then one of them writes an article about how wonderful the men and women in the military are, compared to the tycoons (like Cheney) who dreamed up this war (although those tycoons are "vital"). Does a point of view get any weirder than that?

I don't think the POV in the article is weird. There are two kinds of people, as they say. In this case, one of them is those who think, like Stein, that we would all have been blown up by now if not for the administration and its WOT. The other kind is everyone else. Stein is in the first category and for anyone in the first category, that's a good column, one that makes sense.

That the Republican party also subsumes the country's Armanis as well as the Steins and the neocons is extraneous, seems to me. I'd be surprised if many Armanis are also Steins.

You're looking at the article with your left lens. Ben Stein is a neocon and a strong supporter of the war. He's written several columns about supporting the troops and how they humble him. Some question his sincerity, but I think he's just a true believer. In the same way, the true believers find the left's inability to understand how vital this war is incomprehensible and reprehensible.

Edit- whoops, kholt said the same thing already. Sorry!
