The problem, imo, is mixing entertainment with news. They don't mix very well. Since many people get their news only from television, where a news story is about 2.5 minutes in length (and that's an in depth story), and since television is all about ratings, and ratings seem to depend on sex and violence (and we can blame the audience for that), what hope is there?

without question politicians are slimy

but I disagree that the people who listen/read and follow news are in general slimy [yes, I'm sure some are]

personally, I'm tired of being fed hype and innuendo

there are a million interesting stories to be reported, it doesn't only have to be sensationalism and first 'scoops', tripping over each other to 'bag' ratings, headlines and make a name for themselves

I loved Charles Kuralt's 'Sunday Morning'

interesting, informative, a joy to watch [or listen to]
