2005-08-09 04:58 (New York)

By Anthony Mukwita and Antony Sguazzin
Aug. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Glencore International AG and First
Quantum Minerals Ltd. may extend the life of their Zambia copper
mines known as Mopani Copper Mines Plc, after discovering new
deposits, the Times of Zambia said, citing a company spokesman.
The life of the mines may be extended to 20 years from 15,
the unidentified spokesman said, according to the Lusaka-based
newspaper, which is owned by the government.
The deposits, located at Luansobe near the northern town of
Mufulira, would also boost annual output to 190,000 metric tons
of copper from 185,000 tons currently.
