I agree with you. Violent political protest is sometimes the only thing that gets the job done- unless you are prepared to wait for the meek to inherit the Earth. (If that is what you were saying here "that would not have existed without the multidecade uprisings")

Let's see, you have now insurgents (Sunnis) blowing things up all over the map, including south (where Shias are).. Defense pact with Iran, a major Shia state.. Sunnis not happy with their lot under the new reality.. Shia Sunni could be on the verge of a civil war. They probably wish there was another dictator holding the fort and keeping every one apart.. Imagine how things would be if US had given full attention to Afghanistan.. Full hunt for AlQaeda and kept the lid on Iraq thru UN..
