We missed a place like that in So. IL in the 70's... 10 acres of forest with a big 3 bedroom stick built house on a small 20 ft bluff above a small creek that was the feeder for Rend Lake, a big (19,000 acres) impoundment lake about 20 miles south that the Army Engineers (including my father-in-law) had built 5 years earlier. Below the house was a wide spot in the creek with the tracks of uncounted deer and other animals that used that spot for their watering hole. It was $14k at the time and we could not come up with enough money and financing. At the time my income was about $400/month and it was a stretch just to support my family of wife and 3 kids food and clothes and shelter. Our house was a small 3-bedroom box that cost $9k ($57/month pmt) 6 years earlier. Probably $100k now. boo hoo hoo. But divorce and California here I come, happened in 1977 and dreams disappeared.

There used to be a ski run at Lost Trail Pass, and there is Snow Bowl at Missoula. Hamilton is fly fishing paradise.
