What if the child that I did not know would have become the Dr that found the cure that would have saved his life? The fact is your analogy falls on it's face "The effect of a million unwanted pregnancies avoided is lower crime, lower rates of child abuse, and greater care heaped upon those children whose parents did want them at the time they were born." Talk about faulty logic. If crime rates are all that matters then institute the death penalty for all unwanted children. That would solve many problems but it would beg the question (as you are doing) of whether it is right to kill Human beings for nothing more than being unwanted.
