Sadly, Bush-Cheney had no plan for the aftermath of the relatively easy invasion. Their plan was "we will be greeted like liberators", then as Cheney said at the time "it will take weeks,or a few months". They ignored all the warnings and just went in.

As Powell warned Bush "if you break it you own it"

Bush Sr. didn't go into Baghdad after the Gulf War for precisely this reason, how do you occupy a crazy country that size with open borders?

Bush-Cheney failed in Iraq. Completely. The invasion was the easy part and they should have known that. Kerry told them too. They never listened to Kerry. If they had we wouldn't be in this mess today.
