Indeed, what else are they to do with their soon- to- be worthless dollars. And who can blame them for wanting to secure oil reserves peacefully. They have to heat their homes too. We've certainly gone to extreme lengths to secure ours. Frankly, it seems to me our government doesn't gives a damn about jobs, they care about votes and feathering their own nest at the little guy's expense. Most of Unocal's resources are in their part of the world anyway. So, divide it up. We or someone else gets what's in our hemisphere and let them have what is in theirs. Start treating them like an enemy, which I don't think they are, and they will surely become one. Lord knows we've created enough already with our holier than thou attitude, you know, my way or the
highway. Besides we're supposed to be for globilization.

sketch - re: China....

If anyone has an open mind and can set aside personal philosophical & political predispositions and truly want's to obtain an accurate assessment of the Chinese Threat to the US... you don't need to read, or listen to a single word emanating from the US Press, Politicians, or any American source - all you need to do is to read and listen to what the Chinese are saying themselves and most importantly - to open your eyes to what they are doing...

In my opinion, the following is a "REQUIRED READ" to even begin to be in a position to remotely discuss the threat China does, or does not pose to the US.

Here's an article from 7 years ago where China had replaced Russia as the primary supplier of Military Arms to Iran and that their strategy in doing so, was to redirect US attention and involvement to the Middle East and away from Taiwan.

Sketch the debate is not one of whether the US has an altruistic policy toward Global Energy Supplies, or whether our present Administration is not corrupted by the deeply embedded relationship between Money, Power and Politic's that is part & parcel of our Political System today.

Fortunately, there still exists individuals like Retired CIA Director, Adm. James Woolsley who cut thru the various political agenda's and spoke wholely to the threat China poses to the US People.

On the note of self-serving Money, Power & Politic's vs. Altruism - the 'oft revered Ret. Gen Colin Powell has just joined a reknown Venture Capital Firm:
