So, if they are not cowards, they must be heroes? Is there no other option?

You can't determine that someone is a coward by showing that he isn't a hero. Most people are neither.

I agree with what Kholt says on this.

Also,

If you will recall we (the US) targeted civilians in both our atomic bombing of Japan, and our fire bombing of its cities. We did that to break the will of the (unarmed) Japanese people, and we did it to send a message to their government. I wouldn't say we were "cowards" for doing that, would you? I don't find things as simple as you do. For me, the world is not black and white. And who the heroes are, and who the cowards are, and who the folks in middle are, is never entirely clear, and depends a lot on your perspective- imo, of course. I realize that isn't your opinion.
