Western society wants them to be given the necessities of life and to be protected. Those who believe that the personhood of a zygote is analogous to the personhood of an orphan ought therefore to argue for a similar social treatment: i.e care and support at taxpayer expense.

With abortions we are not talking about a fetus that somebody doesn't want. We are talking about a fetus that nobody wants, not even the prospective mother. Wanting the fetus doesn't mean someone will willing to say an abstract prayer for them and all the rest of fetuses. It means they want it, and will take possession and responsibility for it.
