IMO, a lot of people in the US don't vote because they see a Tweedledum or Tweedledee choice, both of whom really work for different interest groups and corporations, and just don't care.

There's lots of stuff besides the tweedle twins. Local intiatives, judges, treasurers, the 70 million or so CA propositions [CA may have gone over the top]... Other political activities that are part and parcel of a democracy, including "jury duty". In some states, there are people that don't register to vote, because that puts them in the jury pool. IMO, democracy isn't about passivism, it's about actively participating in the democracy.
