Biotechs are zooming today, especially the small ones. Maybe a short term top, I am trimming positions in EXEL. Also selling Utes HE, RRI, SRP - they are rolling over - and soem energy - CHK, EOG Buying FLTK, oil field equipment supplier, soon to move to AMEX.

Besides Drugs, text books in Asia have had special pricing. Software is often differentially priced. All three - software, books, drugs - have high intellectual content, relatively low mass, so shipping costs aren't to big a factor. Cell phone service is also priced differently - In nothern california, much higher than Florida. *** Lots of different pricing for different industries - put "Marine" on anything, and use yellow or blue plastic, mark up 30% +++ *** So are the drug companies effectively subsidizing the thrid world or gouging the first world ? Drug companies used to provide lots of "free samples" of established drugs to doctors, with the understanding that the doctors would give them to their lower income patints who often could not pay for drugs, or often the doctors visit. State regulators used have phone companies charge higher rates for "business" phones and long distance, and have the phone comopanies then explicitly cross-subsidize residential and rural phone service. Good or bad policy ?
