Laura Bush killed a friend with her automobile. Was she drunk or stoned? I have no idea. Nor do I care. It was an accident. She's forgiven. The point is, you creeps demonize Kennedy for his accident, but not Laura. That's a clear double standard.

Kennedy did not "leave the scene". The scene was a pitch dark beach channel far from any town, person, street light or telephone. In fact the ferry was no longer running so he had to swim a 100 yard channel to get back to civilization to report the deed. He was certainly also in shock at the time.

Kennedy committing adultery was the only real scandal, though hardly a surprising one. Have GOP leaders ever committed adultery? Would you be at all surprised if they had? 50% of husbands do, and the number's probably much higher for politicians.

Otherwise, accidents can happen to anyone. If you get into a bad accident it doesn't mean you're a bad person, it means you were careless, unlucky or both.
