Yes poppers.. That was why I mentioned the Jitterbug.. hits on the surface from an arially inclined smallmouth (well we just used to call them black bass) were always exciting... poppers take a little more technique than the old Jitterbug though I always found.. for us lazy guys :O)

Edit sometimes at dusk we'd see a big one jumping for whatever was flying around way out... then the trusty old silver Canadian Wiggler would come out cause that was all that had enough carry to get far enough out... hooking one of those in the current was good work if you could get it :O)
