Why don't we take all the schools and make them residential, and relieve Canada's parents of the responsibilities they are so ill equipped to deal with. Parents are unable to make sure their kids learn to swim. They cannot make sure their kids eat breakfast so we have to have breakfast programs. Some of them have no gym shorts or clothes so now we have to cloth them. There is a problem that the schools are depending more and more on donations from industry for donations, but they want to make sure the companies doing the giving get no credit for it. If children come to school with no food, take them away from their parents and give them to someone to feed them.

Many public pools offer free swimming lessons, and if they don't set them up. There is no real reason that Public Swimming pools should not be open from June 1st if it is warm enough till October 1st...... Since school property is off limits to the general public, because of insurance problems, the last thing we need is swimming pools in every school. A community pool that is enclosed and could be used by the community would be far better, and staffed, and run by the community, so that when teachers strike the pools don't become another bargaining chip in their arsenal. Toronto Island has lots of beaches, and swimming lessons could be offered there as well.

Canadians work until late june to pay off their taxes, the last thing we need is the Fiberals starting on a plan to put a pool in every school in Ontario.

Yes good for the kids from better neighbourhoods... sounds like a two tiered health system scenario ... no ? I know it is the way is but on my socialistic side I think we should have great public education... it is simply in everyone's best interest...

So we are dumbing down the entire system to the level of the slowest child and the poorest child? Teacher's are hugely socialist, but when it comes to their over blown paycheques they consistently hold the children hostage. It is time to rethink the school system and what exactly we want it to do. Teachers should be paid a base rate, and then every child should be tested every year on the same province wide exams, and the teachers paid a bonus based on the scores of their kids. The teachers producing the best and brightest children would be the best paid. Classes should be available online, so that students who are not in school can learn wherever they are. If they are suspended they can take their class online, or sick or whatever.

WHEN/IF we get the present schools all up to date, in perfect repair, and every library filled with books, with not one portable school room in the province, and breakfast and lunch programs in every school for every student, we can talk about pools for schools. But I think the pools should be in community centers controlled by City Council and paid for by the school system. If they are indoor community pools every school can be slotted in for so many hours a month, and lessons or public swimming can be seven days a week 18 hours a day.......
