It has not been longer than WWII. WWII started in the 30s (early 30s in Asia, 1939 in Europe) and ended in 1945. That means at least 6 years, and depending on how you define the beginning it could be as much as 14. If the war is still active in 2017 you can say "longer than WWII".

If you improperly define "WWII" as meaning "America's involvement in WWII", than "WWII wasn't a particularly long war. Not a short one, but hardly one that stands out based on its length.
