The two things do not necessarily equal each other.

Reporters publishing 'classified' information need not be guilty of 'treason'.

'Treason' must meet certain criteria... and since sunshine often is one of the *best* things for a healthy Democracy, and the government over-classifies so much these days, I believe that a fair case can often be made that publishing evidence of government malfeasance, government lies, illegal actions of government officials, etc., can likely rise to be described as 'anti-treason', i.e., be GOOD for the nation, not bad.
