Oh, come on, now.....the pitchers do play the "whole game" in the National League, and not in the American League...but the discussion was about pitchers in general and what is expected of them.

In Little League, Babe Ruth, American Legion (maybe this is only a local place for high-level players to play, so forgive me for mentioning it if it doesn't exist elsewhere), and high school baseball....the pitcher has to do everything anyone else does, but often isn't expected to.

....Just like the first baseman needs to be built like a rock and be able to catch balls, but a substitute might be sent in to run the bases for him. He ain't fast enuff. And I guess you've heard of pinch-hitters.
