Thanks for posting that story, Lady_LAL. It's sad that some people think that anything that strikes their fancy is fair game, theirs for the taking. There is no excuse for vandalism of any kind, and when the vandalism endangers motorists and innocent animals, it is doubly objectionable. I hope those people are caught and made to repair those signs themselves at their own expense.

I've seen those very signs. They are on highways that are clear and easy to negotiate. To my way of thinking, nobody should be driving so poorly that they need a warning sign to alert them to possible crossings by animals.

Sometimes it is difficult to avoid a panicked deer or antelope, but bears just amble. It should be possible to avoid hitting them under most circumstances, if one is driving defensively and safely.
