Remarkably stable, depends on what you consider remarkable. But in terms of income and wealth many people start out in the lowest or 2nd lowest 5th and eventually move in to the top. The same person is in each 5th at different stages of their life at various points along the income and the wealth spectrum. The wealthy families of a hundred years ago are by and large the wealthy families of today. That's not a completely accurate statement. Tim
