If there were a list of the top ten excuse makers every year, would Bush be among them? He certainly would not get my vote for being a truth teller. Friedman is correct that the moderate Muslim community needs to take a lot more leadership in preventing the creation of more radical Islamists. I don't agree with him that people who argue that there are root causes of this polarization are almost as bad as the terrorists, or that they are excuse makers. Every problem has root causes. The willingness to look at them objectively does not mean that extreme behavior is excused at all.
