Mine also. The sad fact is all government agencies turn into the "Post Office" eventually.

You don't know how painful this is for me to agree with you as I remember the original 7, but sadly your right. They were my hero's growing up

Those original 7 were fire-pissing test- and combat-pilots, and could push the envelope because they were the only game in town. NASA was young, there was political pressure to get stuff done, and they could take risks.

NASA today is a large, mature, bureaucracy. No fire left.

Private space entrepeneurs, once they catch up to Mercury, will leave NASA in their dust.
