Let me clarify my meaning.

"If our elected officials are honorably acting on imperfect information about our circumstances (which is always true)

It is always true that we are acting on imperfect information about our circumstances. ... not that elected officials are always acting honorably.

Sorry for the confusion. I take responsibility for that one.
