Are you serious?

Heart surgeons generally have a well documented accounting of their competencies based on education, training and past performance. Most are quite willing to produce a copy of those for anyone that would be a prospective patient.

Honesty is personal. However, most doctors have a social circle of friends and community ... a reputation with references is also something that should be forth coming upon request. That does not eliminate the possibility of being conned.
