1) They are AF, and the AF wants their own people on the ground calling the strikes.

2) The two major "blue on blue" hits by controllers were done by A Team members, not AF controllers.

The air controllers are not combat trained to fight anything more than a minor skirmish as they await immediate pick up.

I agree with 1). From my view it is only USAF doing what everyone else is doing and that is trying to get a bigger piece of the now fat SpecOps budget pie.

Re 2): JDAMS are accurate at best 95% of the time.
Lots of incidents in this war of USAF CAC folks missing targets and SF has called in more.

SF A teams are experts in sighting in lasers and using the other techniques to mark or identify targets. They are also much better at utilizing terrain to protect themselves and in assesssing relative danger and either getting out or calling the strike... danger close or both.

All A Teams now have at least a coupla guys who are Pathfinder graduates. There They learn all forms of aircraft utilization, including extensive training in calling in all forms of TACAIR Strikes from both fixed wing and rotary.

I attended the school in 1968. Later in the 70s, and after using the training to call in hundreds of air strikes, I wrote a paper or two describing why I felt it was the most important school I attended (after SF Training Group).
