Striking down the Missouri Compromise was worse than Roe v. Wade. One of the major causes of the Civil War. I've been reading up on abortion law in the colonial era because of Scalia's comment that it was illegal when the Constitution was ratified. Did not realize that historians actually file amicus briefs in abortion cases! Dueling briefs, no less, giving alternative histories. Briefs back to at least 1983 are available online via Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw.
