But raising taxes in a recession is a sure fire way to turn it into a depression. But raising taxes during war time to pay for the war also makes sense. Cutting taxes for the wealthy during wartime makes no sense. 1. The less wealthy pay a bigger share - giving up a bigger wedge of the pie. 2. Going into debt means future generations have to pay. 3. Debt service is ongoing. Those that favor war, should at least step up and volunteer to pay more to set example.

Ah, tiny spoonfuls. Cutting taxes is better for business. Cutting taxes on the personal incomes of the wealthy in order to justify cutting benefits for the middle class and/or raising the social security tax (a clearly regressive tax) has little to do with helping business (might even hurt) and much to do with paying back the piper who pays the bills. I gather you and I will go nowhere with this conversation. You are welcome to pursue it. I'll chip it when I'm around but it really doesn't interest me because I don't expect either of us will learn squat from it.
