Is it true that the penalty for leaving the Muslim religion is death, incidentally?

Yes. For both the converted and the converter, if they adopt another religion.

As to your other point, multi-culturalism as government and social policy in Europe has contributed greatly to the lack of assimilation.

Melting pots do work, over time.

"We are at war with people who live among us."

We are at war with a very few people who live among us. There are many many muslims in Europe, and the US. How many of them have actually done anything hostile? It will do us no good to exaggerate the threat. It will only make us fearful, instead of rational and logically reactive.

Your odds of being killed by a terrorist in the US (any kind of terrorist) are so small that in terms of risks, it must rate far below bee stings, lightning strikes, and home accidents.

Here's an article I found when I was trying to get you hard numbers:

hsph.harvard.edu

I hope we logically confront terrorist. I'm not trying to minimize that there are muslim terrorists that are a threat- but to suggest that there are huge numbers of them, in the West, is probably incorrect. There are many muslims who are good people. The majority moved to the West so they could live in peace (although no doubt they do want to retain their religion, and some want to remain orthodox).

People have always been wracked by fears. "Long ago" people were worried about global thermal nuclear war with the USSR. People were obsessed by it. I think it was as scary to people (perhaps more scary) than terrorists. I remember the drills. :-) Like a desk would save you from a nuclear bomb. People always have fears to live with, and people always exaggerate some fears- it seems a human trait that we leap from fixations about one fear, to fixations about another one. I'm not saying there's anything "wrong" with that, but it does seem unhelpful, and it also seems to impair people logically. If you wanted to save lives, you would work to change the things that (really) kill the most people, and then work your way down.

1 in 18,000 people will be murdered
1 in 5,400 will die in an accident other than a motor vehicle accident
1 in 6,700 will die in a motor vehicle accident

If you want to worry, worry every time you get on the road, and drive very defensively. Other drivers pose a much greater danger to your life than terrorists do.

Have a great day. My kids had some tummy trouble, but they are better now, so we're leaving for the day. Hope that you have fun this weekend.
