For that to happen, wages need to increase in-line with rents. There is an over-supply of housing stock, which in turn means there is a potential over-supply or rent-stock.

I have to agree with Mish on the deflation scenario.

The only way we could have major inflation is if the US government feels that the threat of deflation is imminent and they try to print us out of it.

That is not happening right now and won't happen for a while, IMO, as the US dollar is very strong against other paper and gold.

Gold may see a pick up nonetheless due to asset-allocation shift, but I don't expect the real big move until after the major recession, whenever it comes.
